Very cool, Eric! I’ll join you on this resolution. This happens to me every year and I’ll maybe last until the end of January. And I feel more than “vaguely” guilty about it! Maybe this can be a place to encourage each other!

Irene,
Thank you – you do not know how timely your words of encouragement are. God works through each of us to upbuild one another in the body of Christ!
I will keep you and your congregation in my prayers. There is such a self-destructive spirit in some churches today. It makes you cry out, “Can’t we all just get along, and get back to the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ?” I also know from experience that votes – even decisive votes – do not always end the conflict, but sometimes just send it underground where it festers and arises in other destructive forms.

Pastor Lemonholm-Thank you so much for your insight and words. The church here in Smith Center is so unnecessarily divided that I fear we will not get through it. It has become so much bigger than the sexuality statements. We have had a PMA for 18 mo. to get us through the call process, and she leaves at the end of the month with no one coming to replace her. Of course, we are out of the call process-who would come to this mess? We have had our own “issues of concience” meeting and informational meetings (information bashing the ELCA and lifting up LCMC by those wishing to leave the ELCA). No one is listening to the other and name calling and “in your face” arguing are abundant. I am on the church council and I can tell you this is not what I bargained for. We have not yet had a vote to leave, but did have a vote in March to not have a committee to look into other denominations. I think it should have been a vote as to whether or not to leave…but hindsight, you know. Now I fear the desention will keep on until they get their way, and maybe it would have anyway. We have so many elderly in our congregation and I’m so worried about their well-being and faith in their “golden years”. I have given copies of your blogs concerning Grace’s struggle to the members of the congregation. Just trying to get people to take a calmer view. Thank you for that. I just can’t imagine where we will end up. Irene
